Calumet Projects

Project No.: 0062  Area in camp: Calumet Project Name: Maintain Cope Course Assigned to: Troop 228-OC-GC 2008

Project Description: Seal the wood parts of the seven Cope stations

Materials, Tools and  Labor provided by Buckeye Council: MATERIAL: Sealer

Materials, Tools and  Labor provided by Assigned Unit: TOOLS: Paint brushes, wire brushes, rags, old cloths. LABOR: 5-8 scouts, with adult supervision - Most of day.

Project No.: 0077  Area in camp: Calumet Project Name: Destroy Multi-flora Rose - May 3 or 17 Assigned to: Need many Troops (Troop 250-WE-BC May 17) (Troop 309-OC-GC May 3) 2008

Project Description: In most locations multi-flora rose will not have to be handled. Use loppers to cut the branches of the rose bush into short pieces and let them lay flat on the ground where they fall. Saw off the stump at ground level. Uproot the stump with a shovel or mattock. The Area Coordinator will assign an area for your unit to remove multi-flora rose when you check in Saturday morning. Check with the Area Coordinator to receive your "Thorn Buster" token and patch, for Scouts and adults that worked more than 4 hours on this project.

Project No.: 0112  Area in camp: Calumet Project Name: Stain garage by tree farm Assigned to: Troop 914-WE-BC 2008

Project Description: By the tree farm building is a garage we use to store bunks, clean way the weeds and trash from around the building, wire-bush wall as needed, and stain building, including the garage door, Also, in front of the building is a drainage system basin, Set the basin 2 inches below the concrete grade and run a drain pipe out to the side of the building.

Project No.: 0114  Area in camp: Calumet Project Name: C.O.P.E. spread wood chips Assigned to: Work started on 3-15-08 by Troop 101-WA-BC additional work needed to complete this project - (Troop 914-WE-BC May 03)  2008

Project Description: At the C.O.P.E program area, remove old wood chips and spread into the woods, then relay 8  6 inches of wood chips at each station.

Camp Wide Projects

Project No.: 0006  Area in camp: Camp-wide Project Name: Repair tent platforms Assigned to: Troops 94-NE-BC3-15-08 &  Troop 208-OC-GC5-03-08 - Troop 155-NE-BC

Project Description: Platforms needing repair are marked with a small Orange color marker on the front side of the platform (74 platforms are marked throughout camp) repair or rebuild each as needed. Upon completion of each platform remove the orange tag and turn in to Ranger Skip (Note: do not remove green nor red tags) This is a camp-wide project, mark on your job sheet what camps are completed before turning in paperwork at end of day.

Project No.: 0121  Area in camp: Camp Wide Project Name: Cut & Split Firewood Assigned to: Troop 16-SE-BC 2008

Project Description: Cut / split downed trees and haul to campfire areas (Bridge Builders - Akela - Morehead) as directed. Down trees located between Tecumseh campsite and the water tower, also down trees located just in the woods on the right side of this campsite and other locations.

Materials, Tools and  Labor provided by Buckeye Council: TOOLS: Camp's log splitter (old home made)

Materials, Tools and  Labor provided by Assigned Unit: TOOLS: Gloves, rake, splitting mull, splitting wedges. Adult operated chain saws with safety equipment, log splitter with proper safety equipment and pick up truck.  LABOR: Most of day.

Central Camp Projects

 

Project No.: 0015  Area in camp: Central Camp Project Name: Central Camp Beautification - Bass Pond  Assigned to:  (Troop 12-SE-BC April 19 - 70% completed) (Troop 1-SE-BC May 3) 2008

Project Description: 1.  Remove trees and brush from Bass Pond dam.  Drag brush into trees on west end of dam.  Weed whip weeds on dam.

2. Cut brush and weed around shore line of the Bass pond at water level and remove any obstructions preventing the flow of water out the dam's overflow area.  Drag brush into trees on west side of pond.

Project No.: 0032  Area in camp: Central Camp Project Name: Paint Sign Assigned to: Troop 228-OC-GC 2008

Project Description: There is a small sign next to the dining hall, near the cannon, for direction to "Field Sports," remove the sign/post and take it to the Maintenance Building shop. There is a direction sign by water front, paint the letters yellow and paint the post and boards brown.  Remove grass/weeds around post.

Project No.: 0059  Area in camp: Central Camp Project Name: Cut poles and spares Assigned to: Troop 58-WE-BC 2008

Project Description: The Outdoor Skills Area for summer camp needs 50 poles and spares to support this summer’s program. From an area given by Ranger Skip, cut 50 to 60 poles and spares and relocate them to the Outdoor Skills Area,  Minimum length: 3 ½ feet, No maximum length: Minimum Diameter to be 1 ½ inches, Maximum Diameter to be 8 inches.

Project No.: 0122  Area in camp: Central Camp Project Name: Move Yellow Bricks Assigned to: Troop 182-OC-GT2008

Project Description: Move yellow bricks out of wooded area behind the Jones Lodge to the edge of Outdoor Skills yard.  Move yellow bricks to stock pile behind Maintenance Building.

Project No.: 0093  Area in camp: Central Camp Project Name: Green Bar Area Assigned to: Troop 138-OC-GP   2008

Project Description: At the Green Bar Training area, finish staining the small barn, do miner repairs to picnic tables than stain, transport and spread wood chip mulch around totem pole and foot paths in the training area, transport and spread shale into the ruts in the road leading to this area, weed whip the entire area, remove old disconnected light above the GBC sign and install a new flood light on to the sign.

Project Description: At the water front staff campsite, level the ground in 4 areas,  combine two staff plate forms to one with a railing in the center then install onto the level ground, Then run a underground power supply to each of the new plate forms.

Magic Mt. Projects

 

Project No.: 0088  Area in camp: Magic Mt. Project Name:  Paint tent frame outriggers - Magic Mt. Assigned to: Troop 51-WA-BC 2008

Project Description: Paint steel pipe outriggers for summer camp tents at Magic Mt. campsites.

Materials, Tools and  Labor provided by Buckeye Council: MATERIALS: Paint (oil base primmer), paint thinner

Materials, Tools and  Labor provided by Assigned Unit: TOOLS: Gloves, wire brushes, paint brushes, rags, old cloths. LABOR:  Scouts with adult supervision. Do as many campsites as you can.   Report the campsites completed to the Area Coordinator. (All day project)

Dinning Hall Projects

 

May 3 - Project No.: 0043  Area in camp: Dining Hall Project Name: May 03 - Dining Hall Service Assigned to: Troop 335-OC-GP 2008

Project Description: Report to Dining Hall at 8:30 AM to clean and set up tables and chairs for lunch, eat lunch at 11:00 AM, serve lunch at 12:00 PM, clean up after lunch and any other work needed in the Dining Hall.

Materials, Tools and  Labor provided by Buckeye Council: MATERIALS: Food, lunch supplies, Windex, Paper Towels.

Materials, Tools and  Labor provided by Assigned Unit: LABOR: 35 Scouts plus adult leaders from one or more Units. SKILLS: Ability to follow directions, transport food on trays, be clean and pleasant. This is an ideal project for units with younger scouts. Five older Scouts will be selected to work in kitchen.

Maintenance Building Projects

Project No.: 0025  Area in camp: Maintenance Building Project Name: Cut bases for 8 staff bunks and clear coat Assigned to: Troop 220-OC-GC2008

Project Description: Cut bases for 8 staff bunks out of 1/2" plywood and roll on clear coat.  Bunks located next to the Red Barn.

Materials, Tools and  Labor provided by Buckeye Council: MATERIALS: !/2" plywood, clear coat

Materials, Tools and  Labor provided by Assigned Unit: TOOLS: Paint brushes, paint roller and pan, rags, old clothing, measuring tape, straight edge, power saw operated by adult with eye protection. LABOR: 3 to 4 scouts and 1-2 adults, most of day.

The Ridge Projects

 

Project No.: 0019  Area in camp: The Ridge Project Name: Ditch cleaning along Eco-Lodge & Akela Road Assigned to: (Troop 16-SE-BC May 3) & (Troop 60-OC-GW May 17) 2008

Project Description: Clean ditches along road from "Trading Post driveway" - Eco-Lodge Road (north side) to the red gate at Akela Road. Clean ditch from the Yellow gate (1st) on Akela Road to yellow gate by School House Pond. Place dirt and leaves from ditch on upper side of ditch back fare enough so it will not roll back into ditch. Cut small brush and trees 8'+/- back of ditch. Pull brush and trees into woods.

Project Description: Remove limbs and brush on or overhanging trail from The Ridge to Shooting Sports. Spread wood chips on trail from Ridge to Shooting Sports.

Project No.: 0113  Area in camp: The Ridge Project Name: Ranger Bob's Shelter" grade dirt Assigned to: Troop 10-SE-BC 2008

Project Description: The new "Ranger Bob's Shelter" is complete, gravel was placed five feet out from the concrete on March 3, 2007.   Grade dirt outside the gravel area to drain water away from shelter.

Project No.: 0067  Area in camp: The Ridge Project Name: Build Picnic Tables Assigned to: Troop 228-OC-GC 2008

Project Description: We would like to purchase three picnic table kits and build, stain, and waterproof them on site (Surveyor's point). These picnic tables would be brand new tables for the Surveyor's Point campsite. Last years tables were in completed disrepair.
Troop has option to rout out campsite name onto table.

Project Description: At the Whippoorwill camp site, remove the roof shingle on two Adirondacks and install new roofs
