How to apply to participate in the Good Turn Program

  1.  Sign up your Unit for the coming Summer Camp season.  You will need to provide the period you are attending summer camp and the campsite you have reserved for your Unit when you apply to participate in a Good Turn Program.

 

  1. You can apply to participate in the Good Turn Program by filling out a “Unit Application” form on the internet.  After completely reading the information below, click on the “Unit Application” button on the left side of this page, fill out the form and click “Submit GTP Application”.  If you will be camping at one of the planned Good Turn Weekends, click on the "GTW Campsite Assign"  button to see what campsite are available for the weekend you plan to attend.   To arrange for a "campsite or camp use permit" on non-Good Turn Weekends contact:

Please make sure you include an e-mail address for you Unit on your application.

The Internet will be used to keep you informed about matters concerning the Good Turn Program. 

3.     When you submit the Unit Application a confirmation page will appear on you computer (print out a copy for your records), the computer will also sends an e-mail to the Good Turn Program General Coordinator.  The GTP General Coordinator will approve your request or contact you to work out any items that need to be addressed.  Such as:

a.       Camp is full for the workday (weekend) you requested.  We are limiting the number of participants in each camp.  Apply early!

b.      The campsite you requested is not available. Apply early!

c.       Your Unit did not fully participate in the previous Good Turn Program. The Good Turn Program is provided for Units that want to make a real difference toward the quality maintenance and development of the Buckeye Council camps.  They are not for Units that are satisfied to do the minimum to meet the "Good Turn Requirements" of the Camp Honor Program.

d.      Etc.

 4.   A Unit Application approval (e-mail) will be sent to the applicant.  Copies will be sent to the Buckeye Council Program Secretary, Good Turn Weekend Coordinator and/or Camp Ranger (print out a copy for your records) and bring it to camp with you.  It is your Units approval to participate in the Good Turn Workday (Weekend).   Review the information on the approval e-mail.  If any of the information is not correct, please contact the Good Turn Program General Coordinator at: 330-627-7267 or  goodturn@goodturnprogram.org to have the information corrected.  Your review and follow through on needed corrections will help us reduce confusion when you come to camp for the Good Turn Workday (Weekend).   

5.      Click on the "Pipestone Certif. Form" button on the left side of this page, print out a Roster for the Good Turn Workday (Weekend).   Fill it out and bring it to camp.  Include all Scouts and Adults that will be on camp property.  Use "NA" for individuals holding the 5th year Pipestone or not attending summer camp.  This Roster will be used to cover two requirements for checking in for the Good Turn Workday (weekend) activities.   As the "Short Term Camp Use Roster" and "Pipestone Good Turn Certification":   You must present the Roster to the Campmaster as soon as you enter onto camp property unless other arrangements are stipulated by the Good Turn Weekend Coordinator for the weekend you are attending.  The Campmaster will make a copy of the Roster on yellow paper for the for Pipestone Representative to sign and send to the Buckeye Council Scout Service Center.

6.    Review detailed information on the Good Turn projects to help select a project(s) that best suit the skill level of the participants in your Unit.  Click on the “camp name Projects” button on the left side of this page to find a project.  Then click on the “Request to do a Proj.” button, fill out the form and click “Submit”.  You will be notified by e-mail of the project you asked for is approved.  You can check on any changes made to your project(s) by clicking on the “Approved Units-Proj.” button on the left side of any page on this GTP web site, find your Troop and click on the project number in the right column.  All Units should come prepared to remove Multi-flora Rose when they complete their assigned project(s).

7.     Notify the Good Turn Program General Coordinator at: 330-627-7267 or  goodturn@goodturnprogram.org  of any change in the estimated number of Scouts and Adults expected to participate in the Good Turn Weekend.  Please do this at least one week before you are scheduled to attend the Good Turn Weekend.
